Scheduled US economic data and Federal Reserve events for this week and the next two, plus last week's results. Times are Eastern Time (ET). The market-moving releases — CPI, the jobs report, FOMC rate decisions, GDP, PCE inflation and retail sales — are highlighted, and actual figures fill in as each report comes out.
Source: Nasdaq; refreshed Nov 6, 6:23 PM ET. Times are Eastern Time (ET) and follow daylight saving time. Consensus is the forecast published with the calendar; a dash means none was given. A report listed twice usually shows two measures of the same release, such as the monthly and the year-over-year change. Release dates can move, for example during a federal government shutdown. "High impact" marks the headline reports that most often move stock, bond and currency markets. Not investment advice.
Frequently asked questions
What time is the CPI report released?
The Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes the Consumer Price Index at 8:30 a.m. ET, usually around the middle of the month, covering the previous month. Core CPI excludes food and energy prices, which tend to swing the most.
When does the monthly jobs report come out?
The BLS Employment Situation report, with nonfarm payrolls, the unemployment rate and average hourly earnings, is normally released at 8:30 a.m. ET on the first Friday of the month.
What time does the Fed announce its interest rate decision?
The Federal Open Market Committee holds eight scheduled meetings a year. The rate decision and statement are released at 2:00 p.m. ET on the final day of the meeting, and the Fed Chair's press conference starts at 2:30 p.m. ET.
What does consensus mean on an economic calendar?
The consensus is the typical forecast of economists surveyed before a release. Markets tend to react to the gap between the actual number and the consensus, the surprise, more than to the number itself.
