What is Payout Ratio?

Dividends per share divided by earnings per share.

The payout ratio shows how much of its profit a company hands back as dividends. Under 60% usually leaves room to keep raising the dividend; above 100% means the dividend is being paid from something other than current earnings, which cannot last indefinitely.
