Frequently asked questions

What is a cup and handle pattern?

A bullish continuation pattern: a rounded, U-shaped base followed by a small downward drift, then a breakout above the rim. The rounding is essential — a sharp V bottom is a different thing and behaves differently.

How deep should the handle be?

Shallow. A handle deeper than roughly a third of the cup suggests real selling rather than a shakeout, and Flash Finance rejects those rather than label them cup and handle.

How long does a cup and handle take to form?

Weeks to many months. It is one of the slowest patterns to build, which is part of why the breakouts can run — a lot of supply has been worked through.
